WHOO! It has been a long two weeks

28 08 2008

Today is the last day of band camp. Tonight we have a ’sort of’ show.  It’s will be the first time in uniform for the ‘newbies’ and a way to show our parents, what we have been doing the last 9 days or 87 hours or 5,220 minutes or 313,200 seconds of practice. Now I’m sure, that in a few minutes when my friend Steve sees this he will start calculating to see if my math is correct. He will come up with a reason I’m wrong. Don’t worry I know that these calculations are correct!! In my marching band career I have put in over 260 hours of just band camp. That is not including practices during school, when we practice every other day for three hours and the weekends for all day! This SPORT takes true dedication or else you crumble underneath the pressure.

Mom here,

I can attest to facts stated above!  I would also like to add the 6 trips a day to and from the school by the assorted chauffeurs.  I must admit I was one of those people who thought; ‘marching band, how hard can it be!’.  Well let me tell you!  These kids work so hard both physically and mentally.  It has taught them determination, concentration, dexterity, diligence, team work, patients, perseverance and working towardsa common goal.  It has also been a way for us as a family to be involved in something together.  So if any of your children show an interest in marching band, don’t poo-poo it.  The experience is a great character building one.  It is way fun and cool to be a ‘band geek’!  March on!

Hi y’all

24 08 2008

Hi I am so tired right now. this is the only day that I have off for two weeks of daily triples and it has been hard but fun at the same time. It is really different from what you might expect from a marching band. We do daily triples for 2 weeks each section lasting 3 hours (more than the football team thank you very much:)) they only do daily doubles for1 week, lazes.then during school we practice every other day from 6pm to 9pm then on Friday we play at the football games, then on Saturdays we either leave at 3 or 4 in the morning to head for a competition which are at least 400 miles away and some are in Washington and California. but if there is no competition we have a daily triple day from 9 in the morning to 9 at night. this goes on till middle of November. It is a love hate relationship:) no,but it is great fun and after you put in the hard work you can see the rewards and take home the championships. so this will be the last post till next weekend.

A tired marcher

Smoke In The Valley

17 08 2008
If this was a normal day you would be able to see a huge moutain range

If this was a normal day you would be able to see a huge moutain rangeThis is a picture of how smokey it is right now this was taken about 3min ago. were we live we can see a mountain range (the Cascades) all around us 360 degrees. It is beautiful normally. It may look like over cast but it is not it is 100 percent pure California smoke. the temp is about 100 degrees! and it is 3:00pm and you can probably see only about 50.09484732123 ft:) infront of you(like the pic shows) again there should be moutains right there but nope.In this pic the red line is were the moutains should be!

Do you know what time it is?

The Weather Is Crazy!

17 08 2008

Today we woke to a nice lovely smokey Sunday morning. It was about 75 degrees out and in about the time it takes to go to church and come out it started to pouring huge drops. then there was lightning and thunder, the loudest thunder I had ever heard. It rumbled glass panes and scared us out of or boots!(or shoes). All this time I was supposed to be clearing my nawnee’s(Grandma’s) roof. I was still wanting to do the roof but my parents insisted that a bad Idea. I don’t know why, there was only lighting and I would be on a roof:)

Band camp starts tomorrow :( and :)

SMOKE!!!!

16 08 2008

The smoke in the valley is really bad right now and it is worse than ever before! It has been really bad for me because it makes me, cough, sneeze and my nose plugs up. Along with the smoke it is really hot today it was about 104, And the air is not even moving. This week is fair here and at the fairground they have a sign That has the temperature and the time. But this week the fair officials decided to not put the temp on the board because it may discourage people from coming.:)

And in other news marching band is going to start on Monday. Starting with daily triples and the relentless heat. But at least in the end it is good to see the improvement that the group has accomplished. But this also means that I will have a hard time updating so please just stick with me!

WOW!

13 08 2008

Michael Phelps has made history. He now has the record for single most career Olympic gold medals ever in history, with last nights win of the 800 relay. He has a total of 14 gold medals. This guy is amazing! With his 8,000 to 10,000 calories a days to five hours on average in the water per day, he is dedicated!! This has been his lifelong goal and he has successfully reached it. Good job Michael.

what a wonderful Olympics (so far)

12 08 2008

I don’t know if you guys are or have been watching the 2008 Olympiad. but you should if your not. It has been a successful games for our united states. With Michal Phelps helping out immensely, he now has 9 gold medals, two of them at Beijing and more to come. He has not lost a race yet! He is now sharing the gold medal record with some of the most famous Olympians to date, Mark Spitz is just one of them. Michal is only 23 and has had a very successful career, getting 7 golds in Athens four years ago to me is successful! but the whole United states teams are doing great. Right now we are second in overall medals behind china (home field advantage) and we look strong. hope you guys get a chance to see some of the games :)
